History

Just Veneer Snc, founded in 2008, is a new name in the wood veneer business but one of the partners is an old name in the wood industry with the family's experience spanning ninety years. Hanno Scalori, partner at Just Veneer Snc, is the third generation of his family to be involved in the wood industry.

Hanno's grandfather, Dott. Luigi Scalori, beginning his long career in the wood industry in the early nineteen twenties, was a pioneer in the industry. His many successes include being involved in negotiations which helped open up timber trading between the former USSR and Italy in the early nineteen thirties when he worked for what has now become a household name in Italy, Fratelli Feltrinelli (click here to go to Fondazione Feltrinelli - in Italian). For the Feltrinelli Group he also founded Alecta, a leading plywood manufacturer and Feltrinelli Masonite, a producer of hardboards. In 1955, Dott. Luigi Scalori founded his private company Intercontinentale Carinzia Legnami SpA (ICL SpA) that became one of the most respected wood products' distributors in Italy.

Following Dott. Luigi Scalori was his son, Enrico Scalori, who took over the reins of the family business specialising in veneer logs, North American hardwoods and softwoods and Far Eastern sawn timber. Enrico Scalori, a lawyer, also devoted a lot of time in honorary work for ATIBIT (Association Technique Internationale des Bois Tropicaux - International Technical Tropical Timber Association) where he chaired for many years in the Contract Committee and is still active in standardisation of timber products at a national (UNI), European (CEN) and International (ISO) level.

ICL SpA ceased trading in 1991 to become a thriving real estate company.

Hanno followed his father, graduating in law but not pursuing a career in law. When Hanno graduated, ICL had already ceased trading but this did not weaken the pull toward the wood industry. From 1995 to 1996, after having completed twelve months of military service, Hanno was a partner in the agency WPM Srl dealing in wood products. In the years following this initial venture, Hanno gained experience in different areas of the industry including timber, sawn lumber, and flooring. In 2001 he opened his own agency, Scalori Timber Agency Srl, and gathered expertise in a new area: wood veneer.

In 2007 he opened the veneer agency Veneer1 and has now joined forces with his wife, Julie McHenry, with whom he founded Just Veneer Snc. Julie's late father was a gifted cabinet maker whose talent covered boat building, fine cabinet making, French polishing, and marquetry so wood has always been a passion in the McHenry family. Just Veneer Snc trades in a wide range of wood products including: natural and dyed veneers; exotic species of veneers and burls & veneer faces.
